In East Rockaway, New York there is a small but efficient school district. There are two elementary schools with a kindergarten to sixth grade population. There is one junior high high school hosting grades seven to twelve. Each grade in the higher level has about one hundred students.
There are approximately twelve hundred students in the entire district. There are fifteen students to every one adult keeping the class sizes small. The school district is the smallest in the county of Nassau. The school employee eight full time teachers as well as support staff. Teachers must be certified in the appropriate content area in the state of New York to teach in this district.
The school still provide great education and opportunities for extracurricular activities. The high school competes in football, cross country, volleyball, basketball, softball, and track events. The musicals known locally as the Rock Rivalry are popular events in the community.
